Falun Gong followers battle police in Singapore (11/10/2001)

The Associated Press reported on November 10, 2001 that followers of the Falun Gong sect scuffled with Singaporean policemen when a photo exhibition portraying Falun Gong as a dangerous cult.

One Falun Gong follower grabbed a microphone and said in Chinese that the exhibition was "rubbish," while others yelled at China's ambassador to Singapore, Zhang Jiuhuan.

Falun Gong is outlawed on China's mainland as an "evil cult."

China says the group is a cult that has caused the deaths of more than 1,600 people, mostly practitioners it says were told to use meditation rather than medicine to fight illness.
