35 foreigners
demonstrating for Falun Gong leave China (11/22/2001)
All of the 35 foreign nationals who staged a demonstration in Tian'anmen
Square Tuesday afternoon proclaiming their adherence to Falun Gong
had left China by 19:00 Wednesday.
According to local police sources, at about 14:00 Tuesday, the foreigners
unfurled banners bearing Falun Gong slogans in the square and then
held a sit-in, while practicing Falun Gong and shouting Falun Gong
phrases.
The police warned them that their behavior violated Chinese laws
governing parades and demonstrations and cults.
They were ordered to leave within a set time, and treated with humanitarian
concern, the sources said.
