Anti-cult
forum draws large audience in Hong Kong (05/08/2002)
The anti-Falun Gong forum, which attracted some 230 Hong Kong organizations
and 1500 people, went into the second day Monday at the Hong Kong
Cultural Center.
The forum "China's Development and Spiritual Civilization"
was reportedly one of the largest academic seminars in Hong Kong
in recent years with so large an audience and so many participating
organizations.
Speakers at the forum sponsored by the Hong Kong Culture Association
Limited included Sister Angel Theresa Ying, vice chairman of the
Administrative Committee of Catholic Church in Beijing.
Ying compared the Falun Gong cult to a highly poisonous drug, as
it took advantage of practitioners' good wishes and led them astray
into the blind alley. Ying called on the religious believers to
act in accordance with the religious doctrines to safeguard social
stability and development.
In addition, Sheng Hui, vice chairman of the Chinese Buddhist Association,
Tso Wung-wai, professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong,
and Liu Tianjun, a professor with the Beijing University of Traditional
Chinese Medicine, all made speeches against Falun Gong.
