Falun Gong activists released after completing jail term in Singapore

Seven Falun Gong activists whowere jailed for obstruction to police
duty during an illegalassembly were released from Singapore prison
on completion oftheir four-week jail term Wednesday.
They were sentenced on March 29 for preventing policemen fromseizing
their placards during the illegal assembly at MacritchieReservoir
on December 31, 2000.
Among them are three permanent residents holding passports of China
and three Chinese nationals on student passes. They werehanded over
to the Singapore Immigration and Registration thatwill decided on
their stay in Singapore, but no information on itsfinal decision
is available.
In the same case, eight others were also convicted ofparticipating
in illegal assembly and each of them was sentencedto a fine of 1000
Singapore dollars (US$570).
