| NPC delegates
in Macao condemn Falun Gong cult (02/19/2001)
The delegates to the National People's Congress (NPC) in Macao
Monday vowed to curb the development of the Falun Gong cult as part
of the efforts to maintain a sound social environment in Macao.
"We will not permit anyone to disturb and harm the social
order and stability in this special administrative region (SAR)
and China's inland areas by taking advantage of the freedom in Macao,"
said Tong Seng Chiu, honorary president of the Macao Federation
of Workers' Union.
He noted that Macao is a peaceful and free society ruled by law,
and the Basic Law of Macao SAR has given the people the freedom
of gathering and religious belief.
Falun Gong has cheated many people of goodwill and caused disasters
to lots of families. The whole society has been threatened by the
cult, said Ng Si Meng, director of Macao Association of Neighborhood
Communities.
He expressed his firm support to all necessary measures taken by
the SAR government against the Falun Gong cult and the necessity
to let the whole society know the evil nature of the cult.
Pun Iok Lan, president of the Macao Federation of Workers' Union,
hopes all the Falun Gong practitioners will "wake up"
at an earlier date and should not help people with ulterior motives
to disturb social stability and the country's safety.
The participants agreed that Falun Gong had become a political
organization which gangs up with other anti-China forces overseas
to attack the central government, and the practitioners are not
allowed to turn Macao into a base to carry out their illegal activities.
