Former
Falun Gong head turns over a new leaf (02/13/2001)
Ye Maiyan, former deputy head of the Anqing Falun Gong Instruction
Group has turned a new leaf after breaking away from the banned cult.
Ye is a doctor at the Anqing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine
in Anhui Province, east China. He was introduced into the cult in
1996 believing that Falun Gong can help cure illnesses and terminal
diseases.
In 1997 Ye was promoted to the fourth deputy head of the Falun
Gong Instruction Group in Anqing City and became a leading member
of the Falun Gong cult.
After the April 25 incident last year in which thousands of Falun
Gong practitioners besieged the Zhongnanhai government compound
in Beijing, Ye continued his illegal activities. On July 21, 1999,
he was seized by the public security department while organizing
illegal activities in the provincial capital of Hefei and was sent
back to Anqing.
With the help of colleagues from his college, Ye began to learn
more about the true nature of Falun Gong and the cult's pernicious
influences. Realizing his errors, Ye requested the college that
he be relieved from his post of a department head. However, the
college decided not to do so because he has repented.
Ye now devoted nearly all of his time and energy into his profession
and continues to play an integral role at the college.
