Why do so many believe in cult?
Editor:
When I read "Zhuan Falun" in 1996, I immediately found it
unbelievable. I just laughed and put it aside. Then in 1997, to my
surprise, at my college I saw a posting inviting people to practise
Falun Gong. By then Li Hongzhi had become famous all over China. Why
do so many people believe a liar? It really made me think. In my opinion,
there are several reasons:
* People's interest in being healthy.
Along with the rapid development of China's economy, ecological
problems have resulted in more diseases than ever. Li Hongzhi says
Falun Gong can cure all diseases. It is really irresistible. Puzzled,
some people may tend to believe him.
* The gap between the rich and poor.
Before 1978, there was little diversity in individual income. But
now, there is a great gap between the rich and poor. Even worse
is that some possessions of the rich are not legally gained. This
may cause frustration. Li Hongzhi takes advantage of frustration
over corruption as it is one reason for distrust in the world. This
may have helped him gain some supporters.
* Ignorance. China's education system is not perfect.
The government cannot provide sound education to all. So some people
cannot tell the difference between scientific things and superstitious
ones. If they see someone else believing in Falun Gong, they tend
to follow.
In order to solve this problem, first, we must protect the environment
to guarantee the health of our people. Second, enhance our legal
system to avoid corruption. Third, improve our education system
to make people wise.
